History
This embroidered quilt was made by Mrs Clare May in Melbourne in the 1960s and is now owned by her daughter, Mrs Hilary Williams. The kit was either bought in America or at Georges in Melbourne, Victoria. It is used in summer. Mrs May was a member of the Australian-American Association in the 1960s and was a keen sewer.
Description
Wholecloth quilt of fine cream homespun embroidered with stranded cotton in two shades, brown and buff with gold highlights. It is a cross stitch floral pattern which was stamped on the homespun. The self-coloured quilting is mostly in straight lines with a fern design border. The quilt has a bound edge.
