History

The quilt top was donated by the Woods family of Fairfield New South Wales, Australia to the Fairfield Regional Heritage Centre NSW.

The family is uncertain about its origin but believe it was made by an aunt. The design appeared in Weigel's Journal of Fashion, 1 June 1889. The quilt was never finished.

Description

Silk patchwork quilt top. The allover pattern is of part octagons and black four-pointed stars in the centre of small squares. When joined together, the effect is rows of octagons.
