History

The quilt was made by Jessie Dunstan in Newcastle NSW in 1956 for her first grandchild Toni Whitson. Toni's mother passed it on to her sister Yvonne when her children were born. Jessie Duncan was a dressmaker and so had many scraps from which to make quilts but this is the only quilt that still exists.

Description

Hand pieced over cardboard, hexagon quilt using a wide variety of cotton materials in patterns and plains. Buttons are used as ties and placed at irregular intervals. There are the remains of fluffy appliqués thought to have been bunnies. The padding is a blanket and the backing is flannelette.
