History
The banner celebrates the flora, fauna and landforms of National, Marine, Conservation and Nature parks in Western Australia. It was designed for and gifted to the WA Parks Foundation in 2020. Pat Forster and Elizabeth Humphreys organised the project and constructed the banner. Thirty-nine members of the West Australian Quilters Association contributed eight-inch square mini quilts. The banner is used at Parks Foundation events and has been hung several times in the WA Museum Boola Bardip and at the Royal Perth Show, to celebrate spring.
Description
The banner comprises 65 eight-inch square mini quilts and 15 mini quilts with letters spelling SPRING into PARKS. The mini-quilts are each bound and are mounted on heavy duck fabric. The banner is in three sections which can be hung together or separately. A booklet about the banner was compiled for the WA Parks Foundation showing an image of each mini quilt, with the common, scientific and Aboriginal names of flora and fauna, and location of the landforms shown on the quilts.
