History

The Quilt was created in 2020 -2021 and is inspired by an old Roman floor Mosaic in the church of St Nicholas in Turkey.
Exhibition History: Australian Quilts in Public Places - AQIPP 2021 - 2022
Theme: 'Where in the World' Whitehorse Art Space Melbourne.

Description

Weathered and worn by centuries of use, the subtle colour changes achieved by the eco dye process emulate the damage and decay over time. This is also echoed in the changes to the symmetry of design.
The base fabric is recycled cotton damask bed linen. The majority of the surface is recycled old woollen blankets, wool mix fabric and wool felt.
Cotton embroidery and machine thread and wool wadding.
The base fabric and recycled wool blankets were eco dyed using gum leaves and bark. Woollen border fabric is screen printed. Machine stitching and applique.
