"The waters crept like fingers, seeking their way forward through the expanse of salt pans, wind shaped sands and dry vegetation. The forward edges of the rills, turned white and bubbled as they hit the heat beneath them. I watched in fascination as the desert that is Lake Eyre, South Australia, became an inland sea as northern flood waters reached it."
